Quilt Totes
The Story Behind Our Quilt Drops
Every quilt has a history. The vintage quilts we use were pieced together from scrap fabrics that were left over after a woman sewed clothing for herself and her family. Not considered an art form at the time, these quilts required incredible skill, time and an eye for composition. By sewing them into bags and accessories, we not only preserve them but give them a new life and audience.
Each drop is built around the quilts we source, so what's available changes every time — different patterns, colorways, and textures depending on what we find. Each tote is cut from a different section of its source quilt, meaning the one you receive is entirely one of a kind.
Our quilt totes are made from quilt tops, the decorative top layer of a quilt that was never finished as a blanket. By sewing them to canvas, they have the same structure and strength as our traditional canvas totes. All seams are double stitched and bound with cotton on the inside. The Golden Sesame leather handles patina beautifully over time with sun and wear, and can be removed to convert the tote to a shoulder bag — and make it hand washable.
